Salazar S's Wand
The famous founder of one of the 4 houses! We only know this design from a briefly shown images in a video on "Magic in America", produced before the newer film series. I instantly fell in love with it, and decided to recreate it with my own processes. This wand is not available anywhere else, so I am very proud that I can make it - and it is now my favourite of all the character wands.
This wand is ideally made in snakewood, from the lore - alas, this is a ferociously expensive wood! I have now made one wand with it, and have stock for a second, and wow did it look good, see below. Generally though I will be focusing on using Mexican katalox for this design, but as you can see I have used other woods. Katalox is a very well behaved wood and does not tend to bend, which is often a problem with other woods, especially on thin shafts like this one. It carves very well, with a smooth surface, and is exceptionally strong, while not being as expensive as other woods like ebony - this is a large diameter wand, and the amount of wastage does sometimes make me wince!
Length is 34.2Cm or 13 1/2", maximum diameter around 34mm or around 1.35".
Real snakewood!!
In katalox - the first was a lucky wand, with a band of lighter colour just hitting the handle on one side!
